This photograph of the westerly view of Anglezarke Reservoir was taken on a warm late summer's evening. The conditions were almost perfect, completely still water and beautiful pink and purple light bouncing off the clouds in the sky. This is one of my earliest landscape photographs and it is still one of my favourites.
This location used to be fairly easy to access. Park at the main Anglezarke Reservoir car park and follow the path north that follows the edge of the water (with the water to your left). Scramble over a wall and through a small group of trees to make your way to the water's edge. Unfortunately, I have visited this spot recently and a number of trees have grown over, blocking access.
Anglezarke Reservoir is the largest in the Rivington system built in the 1850's to supply the city of Liverpool. Once bustling with quarrying activity the area now provides a quiet haven for wildlife. The Anglezarke Woodland Trail follows alongside the reservoir and woodland fringes.
Lead Mines Clough, home to a lovely waterfall, is another interesting trail exploring the historic lead mining activity on the edge of Anglezarke Moor. The adjacent moors offer various points of interest including as number of prehistoric sites.
