This is a sandstone World War I memorial created c.1920 by Arthur Hennings. It is Grade II listed. The memorial is in the form of a celtic cross and is located north of the main church with in the church garden. At the base stands St. George (after Donatello) under a canopy above a heraldic shield.
Along with most parishes in this country, St. Mary’s suffered significant losses during the 1914 - 1918 great war. The names of twenty one men from St. Mary’s who died are inscribed on the war memorial.
